BC Society of Orthodontists Promotes Healthy Kids with Canucks Junior Golf Week

May 24, 2017 — British Columbia: The British Columbia Society of Orthodontists (BCSO) is pleased to announce its continued support of Canucks Junior Golf Week presented by Odlum Brown Limited, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle for British Columbia children. This ongoing community partnership and program, a joint initiative of the PGA of British Columbia and the Vancouver Canucks, is designed to help children and youth from across British Columbia stay active and engaged in sports beyond the hockey season.

In addition, the BCSO will be offering a $500 scholarship to one of the participants to cover the costs of private training with a PGA of BC instructor. This partnership is another example of the dedication BCSO members across the province have toward promoting the health of British Columbia youth.

Canucks Junior Golf Week will take place from July 2-9 at 30 golf facilities throughout British Columbia. Children and youth ages 5-18 years old will have fun learning the game of golf through certified PGA of British Columbia-instructed golf camps in their respective communities.

According to BCSO president Dr. Todd Moore this event is a great way to connect with children to promote healthy living on many different levels including being active outside and oral health care.

“When most people think of orthodontists they think of straightening teeth,” said Dr. Moore. “While it is a part of what we do, orthodontics is also about staying healthy, and preventing or correcting problems of the mouth, teeth and jaw.”

Similarities exist between orthodontics and golf that make the BCSO a great fit as a contributing partner of Canucks Junior Golf Week, said Eric MacKenzie with the PGA of BC. “Just as an orthodontist can straighten your smile and align your teeth, a Golf Professional can help straighten your drive and align your shots,” said MacKenzie. “With their respective expertise, both will help your children stay active and healthy.”

Boys and girls from all sports and all skill levels are encouraged to register – no previous golf experience is necessary to participate and equipment rentals are included in the $20 registration fee.

Parents who would like their children to participate can register them online at canucks.com/golfweek. To learn more about healthy oral care and whether your child may need orthodontic treatment visit www.bcortho.ca.
